Technical details for NeoFarma Oncologia

Method, scope, requirements and limitations

Pharmacogenomics applied to oncology: assesses genes related to the metabolism, transport and action of chemotherapy drugs and targeted therapies.

Applications
Pharmacogenomics
Accepted samples
Peripheral blood (preferred), Buccal swab, Extracted DNA
Estimated turnaround time
20 calendar days, after order confirmation
Methodology
Pharmacogenomic analysis of whole-genome data with a mean coverage of 30x, with variant interpretation using the PyPGx tool, knowledge bases such as PharmGKB and CPIC guidelines.
Analytical scope
Gene–drug pairs with a high level of evidence and clinical impact for oncology treatment decisions, according to CPIC guidelines and PharmGKB 1A, 1B, 2A or 2B associations. Includes genes with proven impact on chemotherapy drug metabolism, such as DPYD (fluoropyrimidines), UGT1A1 (irinotecan), TPMT and NUDT15 (thiopurines) and CYP2D6 (tamoxifen), as well as other genes relevant to targeted therapies and antineoplastic agents.
Medical order
Required

Requirements

Clinical request, therapeutic history, list of medications in use, sample and necessary information.

Limitations

Metabolizer phenotypes are inferences based on known variants and may not capture all genetic or environmental influences or drug interactions. Uneven coverage, rare variants outside the scope and complex genomic regions may limit detection.

Additional information

Oncology medications require close clinical monitoring and should not be changed based on this test alone. The result complements the other clinical information considered by the healthcare professional in a comprehensive oncology assessment.
